Locum Consultant Physician in Healthcare for Older People

Role Summary

The Department of Healthcare for Older People (HfOP) at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, within the newly formed Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH) is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Physician in Healthcare for Older People, on a 12 month, fixed-term basis. We hope that there may be opportunity to make this a substantive post in the longer term so whilst appealing to applicants looking for a fixed 12-month post, we would also be very interested in candidates who may be looking for a longer-term post.

This is a great opportunity to apply for a locum Consultant post in Geriatric Medicine in a beautiful part of the UK and might be of interest to an established Geriatrician wishing to experience living and working in Devon for a year, or a new Consultant who may be uncertain about where to base their career, and are interested in the flexibility this post offers.  We are a friendly and supportive department of 23 Consultant Physicians with a wide range of specialist interests. The postholder would be working as part of the Consultant team with specialist interests open to negotiation depending on the expertise of the applicant.

Whilst the post is a fixed-term NHS post, the job plan is flexible for the right applicant and those wishing to work less than full time are welcome to apply. There is openness to consider a full-time post with commitments worked across a 4-day week.

The post will be of interest to those who hold, or are within 6 months (at the date of interview) of being awarded, Certificates of Completion of Training (CCT) in General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, and who may also have a sub-specialty CCT in Stroke Medicine, or have appropriate previous training and experience in these specialties.

The RDUH Trust combines the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust and we are committed to ensuring an equitable service across the whole of the region.  Working together gives us the opportunity to offer unique and varied careers across our service combining the Royal Devon's track record of excellence in research, teaching and links to the university with North Devon's innovation and adaptability.
