Role Summary
• The overall job purpose of the Sister is to provide clinical and managerial leadership to the Nursing and Multi-professional Team. This includes acting as a clinical leader and an expert practitioner liaising, guiding and advising the Multidisciplinary Team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care.
• This will require the Sister/Charge Nurse to regularly review the clinical records of patients under their sphere of responsibility, to evaluate the effectiveness of the standard of care planning and delivery, and to use the results to work with the team to improve patient outcomes. Within their leadership role they will be responsible for providing feedback on the evaluation of good and poor practice to team members ensuring effective role modelling and mentorship to the team.
• S/he will also be expected to play a proactive role in quality and service improvement and working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager and Multidisciplinary Team, assist in the auditing of clinical standards of care within their clinical area. This includes ensuring a good working environment in which all patients receive a high standard of clinical care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Ward Sister/ Charge Nurse position at the South Devon Satellite Kidney Unit, on the outskirts of Torquay.
We are a nurse-led unit, providing haemodialysis 6 days a week from 07:30-23:00hrs. The unit is situated approximately 20 minutes from Exeter, benefits from a free car park and is close to local bus routes. We are closed on Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with no overnight working required.
We are looking for a dedicated and motivated applicant with excellent interpersonal skills and high standards of clinical practice to join our team to deliver high quality care in a professional and friendly environment.
You will be required to work collaboratively with dialysis unit staff and the wider renal team to provide direct patient care, as well as being able to work autonomously to undertake non-clinical duties such as off-duty planning, auditing and sickness management.
The role also includes working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager to assist in implementing and promoting service development and Trust protocols, therefore the candidate needs to demonstrate leadership qualities.
Although dialysis experience is preferred, this is not essential as full haemodialysis dialysis training can be provided. Ongoing development is encouraged, with a variety of learning opportunities available throughout the renal service.
This role is available as either a permanent contract or as a secondment for those who have an interest in this role as a developmental opportunity.
Working Pattern: There is flexibility to offer this post as a full time position or as a 30 hour/week contract.
