This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to join the Practice Educator Team in the Recovery units.
Are you a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Surgical or Recovery Registered Nurse / ODP who would like to share your knowledge and skills to ensure clinical competence of all members of the Recovery team?
Do you have excellent communication and facilitation skills with a sound understanding of learning styles and CPD?
Are you able to demonstrate skills in supporting team members with personal and professional development and in providing support and feedback relating to performance?

Recovery Practice Educators Roles and responsibilities
Provide ‘at the elbow’ support for all staff
Arrange suitable mentors/assessors to work with our students on placement
Liaise with the wards regarding any nursing ‘spoke students’ who visit for a couple of days experience. We try to arrange this when we have less ODP students so everyone gets a good opportunity to learn.
Attend senior team meetings
Catch up within the team to discuss staff progress, any concerns etc
Assist clinical band 6 with list allocations, putting staff with their mentors, certain staff in certain areas, certain staff on certain lists to achieve competencies
Interviewing
Attend sickness meetings with clinical 6/7
Keep up to date competency record
Keep records of all training
NG link and sign off for NG competencies
Blood training and be blood champions
Arrange audit. Book guest speakers
Discuss within PDR group how staff are progressing.
Book staff on relevant courses- preceptorship, medicines management, IV study days, PCA and Epidural study days.
Book staff on ILS/PILS
Respond to staff queries
Be an approachable staff member for staff to ask questions
Update practice Ed/ Recovery page on HUB
Create learning packs for new starters
Work with new starters on their first day/week to achieve orientation
Meet with new starters after 6 weeks with their mentors to assess progress
Teaching sessions
Develop assessment frameworks for skills
Coordinate when necessary
Relieve staff to attend teaching sessions/ PDRs/E learning
Support and advise staff with the revalidation process
Identify learning needs within the department
Work clinically on lists as required
Undertake own training to maintain or develop competence
Blood gas machine key trainers
Work with PDR team leaders to write SMART goals for any member of staff needing further support. Attend meetings and evaluate progress
The successful candidate will work with the practice educator team to lead the organisation of the teaching and assessing of essential training and competencies for the Recovery team. Additionally, they will have a good understanding of the mentoring processes for student nurses / ODP's / TNA's and be involved in devising, planning and delivering training programmes as required.
This vacancy is an excellent opportunity to support career progression and development and the role will be supported by the other unit practice educators and the Recovery matron and clinical leadership team, together with opportunities to attend relevant training.
