An opportunity to work in a Dynamic Therapy Team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapist’s.

Main duties of the job:-

  • To attend board rounds.
  • To liaise with other members of the MDT, families, carers and other agencies.

We are looking for Therapy Assistant Practitioners to work with the Acute Inpatient Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Team at North Devon District Hospital.  

The Acute Inpatient Therapy team works across the following specialities: Respiratory, Cardiology, Acute Medicine, Surgical, Critical care, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Medical Rehabilitation services (Frailty, Gastroenterology and Pathway 2 Rehabilitation beds)

The post holder needs to work with a delegated caseload from a team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists and work without direct supervision to carry out assessment and treatment interventions.

The post holder will:

  • Carry out clinical assessments independently such as transfers, mobility, stairs, personal care, discharge planning.
  • Carry out ongoing treatment plans, to review and amend in line with competencies.
  • To order appropriate equipment to support discharge planning.
  • To complete onward referrals to appropriate agencies.
  • To demonstrate Physical ability to carry out therapeutic handling without direct supervision. There is a frequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several short periods during the day.
  • To use clinical judgement to evaluate patient progress, including the recording of objective and subjective measurements.
  • Delegate and supervise Therapy Clinical Support Workers.

About You:

You will need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of a range of clinical presentations and have proven and relevant experience in working with in an Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Team.

  • Deploy care, treatment and support strategies to promote person centred care.
  • Provide advice and guidance to service users, care, families and other health professionals.
  • Understand the importance of evidence-based practice.
  • Work independently with service users with in the scope of the role.
  • Manage own work load and time, can take into account changing circumstances.
  • Actively participate in the planning, development and evaluation of treatment plans.  
  • Act as a positive role model.
  • To hold principles and values when under pressure.
  • Communicate honestly and appropriately, receive complex and sensitive information, adapt communication style accordingly.
  • Takes responsibility for you own development.
  • Think outside of the box, with problem-solving and organisational skills.

Training and development and Career Progression

The trust is keen to support staff to develop strong leadership and clinical skills through clinical supervision, internal and external continuing professional developments.

If you are interested in progressing down a career pathway in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy this could be a post for you.  We have a number of staff on the Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship programme. 

Working pattern: Monday to Friday including weekend working as per rosters / 7 day working pattern. We have a flexible working policy that we are happy to discuss suitable options for you and the department.
