Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Elective Orthopaedic service at the new South-West Ambulatory Orthopaedic Centre (Exeter Nightingale Hospital) as a band 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner.

This position will carry a clinical caseload of patients across the Orthopaedic unit; with an expectation to complete pre and post-operative assessments for mobility, advise on exercise programmes and provide a range of therapeutic interventions, treatment, exercises to patients following their elective orthopaedic procedures. Treatment activities might include following and adapting exercise and mobility programmes, practising personal activities of daily living such as washing and dressing and supporting the discharge home process. The post-holder will provide walking aids, splints and other functional equipment as required.

The post holder will work alongside the therapy teams and provide close liaison with family, carers and external agencies to ensure safe and effective transfer of patient therapy from the in-patient setting to home or other services as appropriate. The aim will be to support same day discharge where possible.

Treatment activities might include following and adapting exercise and mobility programmes; practising personal activities of daily living such as washing and dressing and supporting the discharge home assessment, and follow-up processes and providing mobility equipment as required. They will provide walking aids, splints etc as required.

The post holder will work alongside the therapy teams and provide close liaison with family, carers and external agencies to ensure safe and effective transfer of patient therapy from the in-patient setting to home or other services as appropriate. The aim will be to support same day discharge where possible.

Working Pattern: Full or part time hours available. Working hours are between 8am and 8pm and includes regular weekend and bank holidays. Flexibility is required due to long days and commitments across seven days.
