Role Summary
The post holder will work as part of the Sexual Health Team to provide assessment, counselling and support on aspects of sexual and reproductive health and contraception within clinic guidelines and protocols. This will include providing a nurse-led service in various settings and undertaking extended roles.
The post holder will offer sexual health screening and will provide health promotion on all matters relating to sexual and general health, contraception, genitourinary infections, HIV, other sexual health concerns.

Devon Sexual Health Exeter service is looking to recruit new 2 new Nurse Advisers who would like to continue or develop a career in sexual health and contraceptive care.
The post holders will be required to work flexibly within the multi-disciplinary team and be able to independently provide a high standard of individualised nursing care to patients attending the service with sexual health needs, HIV infection and for contraception advice and methods. For those new to the speciality, appropriate training, to include nationally recognised courses and dedicated in-house training and support will be provided.
Devon Sexual Health clinics are currently working via a telephone consultation model, alongside busy face-to-face appointment lists and a young-persons' drop in clinic, with all staff working together to meet local and national targets. Regular HIV clinics, led by consultants in collaboration with specialist nursing staff, are also provided. Contraception clinics offer the full range of contraception methods, to include LARCs and emergency contraception, alongside unplanned pregnancy testing, advice and TOP referrals. The nursing team at Devon Sexual Health work in close partnership with medical colleagues and all offer support, enthusiasm and a forward-thinking approach to patient care.
These substantive positions include a full-time and a part-time post, working mainly Monday to Friday. The roles will include working some evenings and possible weekends on a rotational basis. The clinics are primarily based at the Exeter service. Prior to the pandemic, the service also operated regular clinics in Tiverton, Exmouth and Okehampton, which staff worked at on a rotational basis; it is expected that all of these clinics will resume in the next 12 months. Travel for training and to/from outreach clinics, sometimes in rural locations, is expected; so flexible working and ability to travel independently is essential.
Banding will be discussed at interview and will be dependent on sexual health related qualifications and recent experience working in a sexual health environment. We would welcome applications from newly qualified nurses or nursing staff who are looking to change career. We do expect a high number of applications for this role, so any relevant experience or training will be advantageous.
Band 5 or 6 depending on experience.
