Role Summary

Carry out general Pharmaceutical duties under the supervision of the lead technician for medicines management, the dispensary manager or deputy, assisting in the provision of a safe and effective pharmacy service in line with current policies, procedures and legal requirements.

Work within patient services undertaking medicines optimisation duties on the wards, improving the quality of care to patients in a clinical area by means of an efficient medicines optimisation system. This will include assessing patients own medicines ensuring they are suitable for use in hospital and maintaining and ordering non-stock medicines for patients.

Work in the dispensary dispensing prescriptions and providing support to the dispensary manager and lead technician in the day to day running of the dispensary.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, self-motivated and committed individual to join the Medicines Management team at the Barnstaple site of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will become a key member of the ward multidisciplinary team working to ensure our Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Service continue to meet our patients and service user needs.

By taking a patient first approach you will support the medicines management service to ensure that patients have their medicines when they are needed. You will collaborate with other teams, communicating effectively to ensure a safe, seamless integrated transfer of care for our patients.

This role will be primarily based at ward level but will also involve time within the pharmacy dispensary. The duties and responsibilities include labelling and dispensing, preparing medication for a patients discharge either directly on the ward or within the main dispensary, ordering medication for use by inpatients and assessing the suitability of patient's own drugs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this position as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team, to be well organised, be able to adapt to changing demands and be committed to providing a high-quality service and patient care.

All necessary medicines optimisation training will be provided, if required, and we will support you through a structured learning pathway.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 8:30 – 17:00. Part Time hours can be considered.
