Role Summary
To assist in the provision of the scientific service commitment of the laboratory in line with Trust objectives and commensurate with grade and responsibilities.
To take receipt, check and prepare samples for analysis for the Departments of Clinical Chemistry, Haematology, Immunology and Blood Transfusion, under the direction of the Reception Supervisor.
To provide an efficient confidential and courteous telephone enquiry service to laboratory users, clinicians and patients.
To carry out data entry of all patient demographics and test requirements for laboratory specimens.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides acute healthcare services to a population of approximately half a million people living in Mid Devon, East Devon, and the surrounding area. The Trust also provides a range of specialist services, across the UK and Europe. Set in the beautiful city of Exeter in the midst of glorious Devon countryside and close to the Southwest coastline, with its stunning beaches. The laboratory has strong links with the University of Exeter Medical School, providing a comprehensive Research and Development analytical service, both supporting trials and translating diagnostic research into clinical practice.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our team of dedicated professionals in the Blood Sciences Department of one of the leading Healthcare Foundation Trusts. This vacancy is for a Medical Laboratory Assistant for duties in the busy Reception and Data input area.
The successful applicant will possess good keyboard skills, an excellent telephone manner and should be highly literate and numerate. They must be capable of working as part of a team, have good communications skills, with an appreciation of the Hospital environment being an advantage. They will be able, with suitable warning, to work flexible hours including a Saturday and Sunday morning rota.
Visits to the Laboratory are encouraged.
Working pattern: 37.5 per week
