Role Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to be part of our Medical Examiner service. We are recruiting for a Medical Examiner Officer to join the Trust as part of the Medical Examiner system in England and Wales. The aim of this service is to be able to review all deaths not under the jurisdiction of HM Coroner across North, Mid, and East Devon. 

Medical Examiner Officers (MEO) are the backbone of the service and support the Medical Examiners (ME) in their role of independently scrutinising deaths and ensuring that the ME service runs smoothly and effectively.

You will work as part of a team of Medical Examiner Officers, supporting all Medical Examiners across a broad range of responsibilities. A key aspect of the role involves proactively contacting the relatives of deceased patients on behalf of the Medical Examiner, to establish whether they have any concerns or questions about the death.

You will collaborate with healthcare professionals, Coronial services, Registration services, and General Practitioners to ensure the work of the Medical Examiner's office is carried out in a timely, efficient, and sensitive manner. Additionally, you will manage information to ensure that both internal and external qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators are monitored and achieved.

Close working relationships with the Mortuary team, Coronial services, and Registrar services are essential to provide a gold standard experience for bereaved families.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate a high level of tact and diplomacy, given the sensitive nature of the role. You will be joining a close-knit and friendly team that works collaboratively and maintains a strong 'can-do' attitude.

Candidates are expected to attend a face-to-face or online RCPath Medical Examiner Officer training day (subject to course availability) within six months of appointment.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours a week
