Role Summary

The General Portering Department at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust are looking for:

Enthusiastic, motivated people who are passionate in providing an excellent patient care experience.

  • To provide a flexible, efficient quality service extending care and consideration to patients, staff and visitors.
  • To receive work requests via Telephone, e-mail, face to face and the Trust’s in-house task Management System (TMS). (PRS System – Include My Care System/Devices), take prompt and appropriate action in a courteous and helpful manner. In order to ensure that an effective and timely service is delivered to all service users.
  • Prioritise work and direct staff accordingly, via 2-way radio and telephone to ensure optimum use of resource.
  • To undertake all Portering and Support worker duties, Dispatching, Portering and Security reception duties, whilst working at the Centre for Women’s Health reception and any other Facilities Role commensurate with the banding.

The position reports into a member of the Portering Leadership Team. The successful candidate will

  • Transport patients (including the deceased), bloods, and items of clinical and non-clinical equipment.
  • Attend cardiac arrests to distribute equipment, and attend Air Ambulance arrivals
  • Contribute to effective staff communication including sharing of own insight into the role in line with Portering's policy of continuous improvement
  • Adhere to all Trust policies including those relating to Health & Safety
  • Demonstrate the ability to work quickly and calmly in emergencies
  • Treat all others with empathy, kindness and patience
  • Place a high value on reliability, dependability and be service orientated

The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Strong level of literacy and numeracy
  • Strong ability to build professional partnerships and communicate effectively
  • IT proficiency
  • Ability to relate to diverse range of stakeholders, patients and the wider public
  • High level of self-motivation
  • Ability to act on own initiative
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexible approach

Desirable

  • Relevant experience in Portering or other services
  • Knowledge of the healthcare sector

Working Pattern: 12 hr shifts, including nights, days, weekends and bank holidays for which allowances will be paid
