Foot and Ankle Fellow 

 

12 months or:

 

6 months August 2023 - February 2024

6 months February 2024 - August 2024

 

 

Applications are invited for a 6 month fellowship (with the possibility of extending to 12 months) in Foot & Ankle surgery, based at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre, Exeter.

 

The PEOC Foot & Ankle Fellowship provides a comprehensive, well rounded advanced clinical and surgical experience in all aspects of Foot & Ankle Surgery. You will be working with a team of four consultants supported by a surgical care practitioner, a specialist registrar, dedicated F&A physio team and 4 MSK radiologists. The workload includes all routine F&A surgery – with particular emphasis on ankle arthroplasty (primary and revision ITS), limb reconstruction (AH), neurological and complex deformity correction (NJT) and diabetic foot management is undertaken by the whole team. The majority of the F&A trauma is undertaken by the team – with a dedicated F&A trauma list. The fellows’ weekly timetable will include 4 sessions in theatre including 1 session in foot and ankle trauma theatre, commencing with supervised operating in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, progressing to independent supervised procedures. Outpatient clinics will be supervised with new and follow up patients and there are monthly complex case review clinics and multidisciplinary diabetic clinics. Participation in ongoing audit , research  and publication is expected . There is no on call commitment – but assistance with mid-grade rota is always appreciated! The post is suitable for those coming to the end of their training and wanting to follow a career in foot and ankle surgery .

 

Fellows with be expected in the 6 month period to complete a research project for publication.

This fellowship is aimed at post CCT or final year trainees and applicants will be expected to have at least 1 year of experience in foot and ankle surgery in their training region.

 

For pre CCT applicants it is the applicant’s responsibility to gain SAC approval for this fellowship counting as part of a training rotation.

 

The post holder is expected to comply with Trust Infection Control Policies and conduct him/herself at all times in such a manner as to minimise the risk of healthcare associated infection

A breach of this requirement may result in action being taken against you (in accordance with the Trust’s disciplinary policy) up to and including dismissal.
