Role Summary

To undertake duties that supports the provision of quality services in Dispensary, including coordinating Controlled Drug Audits on the wards/clinical areas. 

 To act as a mentor for Band 2 and Band 3’s working in the Dispensary, and provide support and training to all new members of staff including Foundation Year Pharmacists and Pre-Registration Student Technicians.  

 If not already an ACPT, participate in the South West Accuracy Checking programme.

This post is an opportunity to join the pharmacy team at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Wonford Site, and provide dispensary-based services as a registered Technician with the GPhC.

The Wonford site is the largest in the trust, housing many of Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s acute clinical services, including the Emergency Department (also known as A&E). The site is also a pre-eminent teaching hospital and a leading centre for research and development in the South West peninsula.

The role will be based within the inpatient Pharmacy Dispensary where you will be trained in all aspects of the hospital dispensary services including reviewing and dispensing from prescriptions, accuracy checking and processing different prescription streams from different sources.

The successful candidate will be provided with full training and support in order to meet the requirements of this post. Training features includes:

  • EPIC training (a secure online platform provided by several NHS Trusts that allows patients to access and manage aspects of their healthcare information).
  • Controlled Drug audits on the wards and clinical areas. 
  • ACPT (Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician). The successful candidate will also work towards regional ACPT

The Pharmacy Department at the Royal Devon is looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking person to extend their skills as part of our busy dispensary team. 

You will need to be registered with the GPhC as a registered technician. Applications will be considered if you are currently working towards becoming registered with the GPhC. 

You will be based within the Pharmacy Dispensary, joining a cohesive team and learning to utilise the Electronic Patient Record, dispensing systems and provide Technician-specific services to achieve the best results for patients.

Full time hours are available (37.5 hours per week), which can be worked flexibly as agreed at the interview. Please note that in order to deliver a high standard of care to patients, the Pharmacy service operates 7 days a week and staff are therefore required to work some weekends and bank holidays as part of their contracted hours.

 This post has been identified as involving access to vulnerable adults and/or children and in line with Trust policy successful applicants will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Check/Enhanced Disclosure Check.

Requirement to participate in 7 day working to include late duties, bank holidays and weekend working.

Weekly Working Hours : 37.5 per week
