Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and experienced Tissue Viability Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our specialist service as a Band 7 practitioner. The team is based within Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, providing care across acute and community settings, including hospital, outpatient and patients’ own homes.

Tissue viability is a key component of safe, high-quality care, with a strong focus on improving patient outcomes, preventing avoidable harm and supporting independence. The post holder will demonstrate expert knowledge of wound care and pressure ulcer prevention, alongside a clear understanding of national guidance and evidence-based practice.

The post holder will report to the Tissue Viability Clinical Matron and will play a pivotal role in supporting and leading the service. This includes providing specialist clinical assessment and management of patients with complex wounds, promoting best practice, and supporting staff across the organisation with clinical decision-making to improve outcomes and patient experience. The role also involves reviewing pressure ulcer incidents, supporting learning through PSIRF processes, and contributing to audit, data analysis, and service improvement initiatives.

They will be an autonomous practitioner and expert resource within the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating strong leadership skills including supervision and line management responsibilities within the Tissue Viability team. With excellent communication skills, they will build effective relationships across a wide range of clinical services and partner organisations, and contribute to policy development, education and training, and strategic service development.

The successful candidate will lead on quality improvement and service development projects, contribute to research, audit and evidence-based practice, and support the ongoing development of electronic patient records and clinical pathways. They will also play a key role in delivering education programmes and ensuring staff are supported to deliver consistently high standards of care.

Personal and professional development is actively supported within the team, with opportunities to engage in education, research and leadership development.

The post holder will be required to travel across Trust sites and community locations; therefore, a full driving licence and access to transport is essential.

Working Pattern: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday
