Role Summary

The Haematology CNS will provide a specialist nursing service for patients with haematological conditions.

The Haematology CNS will provide psychological support, expert advice, nursing knowledge and skills to patients and their families, as well as act as a resource to advise and educate and support those involved in the care of the patients with haematological conditions.

The post holder will be required to practice as a non-medical prescriber and non-medical authoriser of blood products for the haematological patients (or be willing to work towards this qualification).

The post holder will be working within the Cancer Services team at North Devon District Hospital.

Caring for patients across the whole of Devon throughout their pathway, when undergoing diagnostic, curative and palliative treatments which include the management of symptoms related to their therapies or their disease process.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist team are part of the larger MDT that supports our haematology patients, across the pathway.

Experience within the field is essential to provide holistic care for patients undergoing treatment for their haematological conditions.

The team are looking for an individual who has gained knowledge and appropriate experience for caring for patients with chronic and malignant haematological conditions, and has a desire to further enhance their knowledge and skills within the specialised area.

As, a Haematology CNS, you will need an understanding of complex haematological conditions; possess excellent communication skills, and have a good understanding of both local and national guidance relevant to the speciality including an awareness of present research.

The post is also being offered as an opportunity for a development role for candidates with the right level of Haematological experience (Band 6 to Band 7 when competencies achieved). 

Working Pattern: 22.5 hours per week.
