Booking Clerk/Receptionist

Role Summary

  • Provide a professional, efficient and effective patient administration and appointment booking service (and cover reception as and when required) to patients and visitors in accordance with Trust policies and standards, acting as the public face for the Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
  • Undertake general clerical duties
  • To ensure outcomes are recorded timely and follow up appointments are made where appropriate.
  • To book new appointments and process attachments accordingly
  • Ensure all information is secure and confidentiality of information is maintained at all times
  • Provide excellent customer care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy
  • Ensure the professional image of the Trust is maintained at all times

More detail about the role

Attention to detail and accuracy are essential, as are good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a good sense of humour and a love of cake. You need to be able to work with a multidisciplinary team and have the ability to use your own initiative and be able to prioritise your workload to meet the changing needs of the Department.  It is essential that you have the ability to deal with patients calmly, sensitively and efficiently both on the telephone and in person.

You will need excellent keyboard skills and strong administrative experience.  A minimum of 2 years working in an office environment and on reception would be desirable.  Training needs will be identified and actively supported.  Previous knowledge of working in a hospital environment would be an advantage.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm

This is a fixed term contract for 12 months. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.
