Role Summary

  • The overall job purpose of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse is to provide clinical and managerial leadership to the nursing and multi-professional team within Coronary Care Unit. This includes acting as a clinical leader and an expert practitioner within acute cardiology, liaising, guiding and advising the multidisciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care.
  • This will require the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse within their leadership role to be responsible for providing feedback on the evaluation of good and poor practice to team members ensuring effective role modelling and mentorship to the team.
  • They will also be expected to play a proactive role in quality and service improvement and working closely with the Matron and multi-disciplinary team, assist in the auditing of clinical standards of care within their clinical area.  This includes ensuring a good working environment in which all patients receive a high standard of clinical care.
  • They will be expected to form part of the Cardiac Reperfusion team. To be called upon to provide expert clinical knowledge on ECG interpretation and care of patients with chest pain within the trust.
  • To actively participate in the management of patient flow throughout the Coronary Care Unit, cardiology wards and cardiac catheter labs. This will include effective organisation of acute admissions to achieve government targets whilst ensuring optimum patient care and safety. To attend bed meetings as required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiology team.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to join our friendly Cardiology team.  You will support the Ward Matron and your Multidisciplinary colleagues to achieve a high standard of patient care, introduce quality and service improvements and take charge of the ward on a regular basis. We’ll also look to you to act as a role model in supporting and developing junior members of the team.

Hard-working, caring, compassionate and keen to learn and develop in the area of cardiology. You will have strong communication skills and the ability to think on your feet. Some knowledge of managing cardiology patients in a CCU/ Cardiology setting is desirable. Above all, you’ll need the ability to model best practice to Band 5 Nurses and students.

We offer the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in caring for acute cardiology patients requiring emergency 24 hour primary angioplasty as well as specialist cardiac investigations and intervention, heart failure and rhythm management, including cardiac devices.

Professional/personal development opportunities will be provided to assist with your induction and career development within Cardiology. You will be provided with exposure to leadership and management responsibilities within an expanding and developing Cardiology Department.

Within the Medicine Division we work as a team to offer excellent care for all our patients.
