Role Summary

We’re looking for registered theatre professionals to join our friendly, supportive team who are committed to delivering high quality, patient-focussed care within busy and varied departments. We are seeking to appoint Operating Department Practitioners and Nurses colleagues for our Theatres and Anaesthetics teams.

You will plan and manage the implementation of individual care programmes for patients, in their surgical journey, across our general and specialist theatres, whether in our acute or community setting in beautiful Devon.

About the roles of Operating Department Practitioner (ODP)/Theatre Nurse

We’re looking for registered theatre professionals to join our friendly, supportive team who are committed to delivering high quality, patient-focussed care within busy and varied departments. We are seeking to appoint Operating Department Practitioners and Nurses colleagues for our Theatres and Anaesthetics teams.

You will plan and manage the implementation of individual care programmes for patients, in their surgical journey, across our general and specialist theatres, whether in our acute or community setting in beautiful Devon.

Training, development and career progression

Here at the Royal Devon we place a strong emphasis on personal and professional development. You’ll receive an in-house induction and competency programme.

Our support for you doesn’t end after a set period, our department’s Team of Clinical Educators work in the clinical setting and are on hand when you need extra guidance and encouragement whenever you need it. We also have the Royal Devon wide Buddy scheme to ensure that you have someone to help and guide you and answer any questions you might have.

There will be opportunities to undertake further professional courses in support of your on-going professional development and career progression.

General Theatres – Our General Theatres undertake a wide range of specialities in both the elective and emergency settings. These include Orthopaedic Trauma, Ear Nose & Throat, Maxillo Facial, Plastics, Breast, Vascular, General Surgery and Urology (which includes state of the art robotic procedures.

Orthopaedic Theatres – The Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC) Theatres sees patients for the elective (non-emergency) orthopaedic specialities: Hips, Knees, Sports Injuries, Spinal, Shoulders, Upper Limb, Hands, Wrists, Foot & Ankle and Children’s Orthopaedics. Community Day Case Theatres - We have theatres in Heavitree (Exeter), Exmouth and Tiverton and take patients through the whole surgical journey using a variety of anaesthetics techniques. Our patients are specifically selected for a day case community setting and we do a wide variety of cases across all specialities. For more information:

Ophthalmology - The West of England Eye Unit (WEEU) is a well-established multidisciplinary team that consistently strives to be at the forefront of innovation in eye care. We are a large team which provides a wide range of ophthalmic care to people not only at our primary Wonford base at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust but in also community settings across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

South West Orthopaedic Ambulatory Centre (SWAOC) - The South West Ambulatory Orthopaedic Centre (SWAOC) is a system collaboration to utilise the best clinical pathways from across the UK for delivery of high volume ambulatory elective orthopaedic surgery at a single designated facility, located at the Nightingale Hospital. Centre for Women’s Health Theatres (CWH) – Our theatres provide gynaecological and obstetric surgery for women supporting them though out these procedures to ensure the best outcome for our patients and their families.
