Role Summary
The post-holder is responsible for providing clinical expertise to the physiotherapy team of qualified and unregistered staff, covering vascular and general surgery across the main wards and obstetrics and gynaecology in the Centre for Women’s Health. This post will also provide support to ICU. The post-holder will lead the service in the delivery of acute post-operative assessment and rehabilitation, working closely with the MDT. The post-holder will be required to support therapy colleagues in ensuring safe and timely discharges and appropriate on-going recommendations as well as providing specialist advice for complex surgery patients and out-lied surgical patients across the Trust.
The post-holder is responsible for their own workload within the designated clinical area; for managing the delivery of the service for all surgical patients on a day-to-day basis in liaison with the Leads across ITU and Paediatrics; management, supervision, training and development of the physiotherapy team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as part of our dynamic inpatient Physiotherapy Service working on the Royal Devon & Exeter (Wonford) Hospital site.
We have a substantive full time post available as part of a flexible team that will cover the adult surgical wards and ICU. The role will carry a particular focus on acute vascular and amputee management and will involve providing comprehensive assessment and appropriate physiotherapeutic interventions to patients with a range of conditions including acutely unwell respiratory patients.
Post holders will be expected to have efficient ward management skills and comprehensive clinical skills to manage a clinical caseload in the acute surgical ward setting including Colorectal, Urology, Plastics, ENT and Critical Care. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to support their Occupational Therapy colleagues in ensuring safe and timely discharges. There will also be an opportunity to support the development of junior and unregistered staff while working closely with managers to develop the service in line with patient need and trust wide developments.
The position carries a requirement to participate on the weekend and emergency on-call respiratory rota.
Working Pattern: Monday-Friday 8:15-16:30. Approximate weekend frequency - 1 weekend day / month
