Clinical activity includes outpatient clinics, operating sessions, and on-call duties.
Outpatients
There are regular outpatient clinics at North Devon District Hospital and peripheral clinics may also be scheduled. Outpatients are seen in the Ladywell Women’s and Children’s Unit.The post-holder must be capable of managing most gynecological and obstetric problems independently. He or She will have their own list of patients, but will work closely with a senior consultant for support as necessary.
Operating Lists
The Unit has two theatres; one for obstetrics and one for Gynaecology. The postholder will participate in emergency and elective Caesarean sections, and emergency and elective gynaecology.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Royal Devon University Healthcare (Northern) NHS Healthcare Trust as a Specialty Doctor within the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post will involve work in Gynaecology outpatient clinics, antenatal clinics, delivery suite, obstetrics and gynaecology theatres. Special interest sessions will be encouraged and provided as far as possible depending on skills and completed ATSMs or equivalent.
The post is a full-time position (10 PAs), + an additional 2 PAs with the agreement of the applicant, with the resident on call commitment approximately 1:8. It would be expected that any successful candidate would take an active role in the service provision of the department. In addition, they would be expected to have active participation in education and audit, which is a great opportunity to enhance your skill set.
The post will include a requirement to be involved in the teaching of junior staff, including those preparing for examinations such as MRCOG and DRCOG as well as teaching and supporting medical students. There are also obstetric emergency study days and perineal workshops.
The successful candidate will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of appointment. Candidates without GMC will progress if shortlisted for interview, though will be expected to have GMC registration at the time of appointment.
