The Specialty doctor is a key member of the Mardon Multidisciplinary Team and will work with all members of the clinical and admin teams to deliver the holistic rehabilitation management of all in patients.
Our rehabilitation service is based on an integrated multidisciplinary team, with mutual support, respect and learning. We use structured goal setting derived from patient values to provide patient centred rehabilitation, prioritising patients social participation goals. The Mardon Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit team engage with and provide support to family members. Our rehabilitation approach emphasises patient and family education and self-management. The Mardon Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit clinical leadership work closely together to review the quality and effectiveness of the rehabilitation service that we provide. We submit data as part of the UK-ROC (UK Rehabilitation Outcomes Collaboateive) audit https://www.ukroc.org/ on a regular basis, which provides a wealth of cumulative data to review the performance and effectiveness of our service in comparison with other UK level 2B services.
Our patient population includes individuals with acquired brain injury, complex stroke, neuropathies, spinal injuries, polytrauma with neurological injury, ICU related neurological illness and progressive conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
There is close cooperation with the RDUH Neurology service, with access to Neurology specialty registrars and consultants. Weekly CPD includes Neuro-radiology meetings and the Neurology Medical MDT. There is also a weekly Medical Grand round (Tuesday).
Patients are usually referred from Bolham (Neurology) ward, Intensive Care Unit, stroke units (Northern and Eastern), orthopaedics, other medical wards within RDUH, Community hospitals within RDUH and neurosurgical facilities in Plymouth and Bristol
There are established links with the Community Rehabilitation Teams in Northern and Eastern Services and with specialist nurses, in particular the MS nurses who are based at Mardon Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit.
This position will work with line management from the Rehabilitation Medicine Consultant.
