Role Summary

We are looking to recruit a specialty doctor in Oncology to work within the Non-Site Specific and Acute Oncology pathways. The role will be based at Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital. 

 

This is a full time Specialty Grade post. There is no on-call commitment attached to this post, but occasional Saturday morning ward rounds (roughly 8 per year) will take place with time taken back in lieu.  The 10 PAs will be worked during office-hours Mondays to Fridays and occasional Saturdays.  Applicants will be expected be fully registered with the General Medical Council.  The applicant will be expected to have previous experience in general medicine at middle grade or GP level, previous experience in Oncology is desirable but not essential.

This is a full-time, fixed-term (12 months) trust grade post aimed at IMT4-7 level to be part of the middle grade rota alongside clinical and medical oncology registrars. You will provide medical cover for the Acute Oncology Service, SACT day unit, and outpatient clinic commitments within the Exeter Oncology Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Those with clinical oncology experience will be expected / able to be involved in palliative and radical radiotherapy planning. You will also be required to support the oncology ward junior doctors.

 

Applicants will be expected to be fully registered with the General Medical Council.  Previous experience in the management of solid cancers including chemotherapy +/- radiotherapy is essential. Candidates will be expected to be part of the oncology registrar rota to provide weekend ward cover (9am-5pm) based on Yeo Ward and one evening working until 7pm covering the day case unit.

 

Cherrybrook, our SACT (systemic anti-cancer treatment) day unit sees 70-90 patients for a variety of systemic treatments per day. The Acute Oncology Service is also based on Yarty Day Case seeing 5-10 patients/ day. The aim for the AOS service is to actively manage treatment or cancer-related problems in the ambulatory setting to reduce the need for admission. Inpatient oncology service provision takes place on Yeo ward a 23 bedded unit taking direct admissions of acutely unwell oncology patients from home, as well as patients admitted electively for treatment. Successful candidates will receive training in prescribing SACT.

Working Pattern: Office hours Mondays to Fridays and occasional Saturdays
