The Emergency Department is a modern progressive department and Trauma Unit supported by a dedicated team of 11 Consultant Emergency Physicians providing shop floor leadership from 0800 – 2200 hours, 365 days a year. Our Medical staffing model enjoys round the clock SASG cover, a 16-person junior doctor rota, and is supported by a team of ED GP’s and Emergency Nurse Practitioners.
The department has recently undergone a significant refurbishment to include a large four bay (including one dedicated paediatric bay) resuscitation room, separate hot and cold major areas, MIU with 4 assessment rooms, two Triage rooms, a Rapid Assessment Hub and dedicated Eye and ED GP rooms. Alongside a separate children’s waiting area and dedicated paediatric cubicle. This recent investment both in terms of process and resource to ensure the efficient flow of patients through the Emergency Department aims to provide a productive and rewarding environment in which to work.
There is an excellent Departmental Educational Programme for SASG Doctors and any successful candidate would be encouraged to undertake Quality Improvement activities. Job Planned time is provided for this, both in terms of supporting professional activities and time for clinical administration. Interested CESR candidates will be offered support with educational and clinical supervising, with placements available in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Acute Medicine and Paediatrics.
We have an Academic Department of Emergency Medicine involved in a number of local and national research projects offering our team experience in recruiting to trials and working in a research environment.
