Commissioned by NHSE, the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme covers North, East and Mid Devon and is delivered across two Hospital sites; Exeter and Barnstaple with future delivery plans to include Tiverton.

The successful applicant will be working as part of the Multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Although predominately based at our Exeter site; you will be required to deliver the service at both sites and therefore must be able to demonstrate a flexible approach in ensuring cross site cover is achieved.

The role of the SSP is to facilitate the patient journey for those referred to the centre with a positive FIT test or under the Lynch's syndrome surveillance. This involves giving patients the required information to enable them to make appropriate choices for investigation and carrying out health assessments either by telephone or a clinical setting. SSPs are also responsible for preparing and attending Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopy lists.

Applicants will be expected to be up to date in their practise; able to develop their skills and contribute to the development of the BCSP. They will follow the Right Results Right Patient Policy and will be involved in the auditing of patient notes and datasets to evaluate the accuracy and standards of patient care.

It is important that applicants have good IT and organisational skills along with the ability to communicate with both patients and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

An essential requirement of the post is to attend a Specialist Screening Practitioner course at Degree level (40 credits) this is taught at Liverpool John Moores or Plymouth University. The role requires the successful candidate to undertake further training to enable them to fulfil the SSP requirements.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, over 7 days a week
