Role Summary

  • To provide specialist neurological assessment, treatment and management interventions to patients with a wide variety of neurological conditions.
  • To be an active part of a Multidisciplinary team working in an inter-disciplinary way, participating in regular MDT meetings and goal planning meetings with patients and their families.
  • To ensure that therapy input is integrated into the patient’s goal-directed rehabilitation plan.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner working without direct supervision.
  • To provide supervision, training and support to junior staff and students.
  • To work with managers to develop the service in line with patient need and trust-wide developments and to help provide an equitable service across the Trust.
  • To participate in a weekend/ bank holiday rota covering acute stroke and neurology services.

Are you a Band 6 or experienced Band 5 Physiotherapist looking for an opportunity to further develop skills in neurological rehabilitation within a dynamic and supportive inpatient setting? At Mardon Neurological Rehabilitation Centre we are looking to recruit dynamic and highly motivated Physiotherapist to join our Inter-disciplinary team for a one-year fixed term position.

You will be based at Mardon Neurological Rehabilitation Centre, located within the vibrant university city of Exeter, close to the Royal, Devon and Exeter hospital.  We are within easy reach of the M5, Exeter St David’s train station and Exeter Airport, offering excellent transport links for those wishing to travel further.

We are committed to developing and supporting our staff at Mardon, striving to create a happy and healthy working environment. We seek a forward-thinking, team-orientated Physiotherapist to join our friendly and supportive team. You will work closely with other Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language therapists, Clinical Psychologists, rehabilitation medical and nursing staff, and Rehabilitation Support workers to support patients presenting with various neurological conditions, such as acquired and traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and Guillian barre syndrome. You will be responsible for high-quality assessment, goal and treatment planning, and management of rehabilitation programs for a variety of complex clinical presentations.The post may also include the opportunity to deliver hydrotherapy interventions, and will involve working on a weekend / bank holiday rota with Acute Stroke and neurology patients. You will manage your caseload, including appropriate delegation, and supervise and support junior team members.

We have close links with acute teams in the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the broader community services across the surrounding clusters. We seek to maximise the potential of our staff, and there are multiple opportunities for service and personal development within the role. A highly experienced therapist will offer you regular supervision to support you in developing and expanding your existing skills and knowledge.

The post holder must have relevant clinical experience. You must be able to demonstrate flexibility to support the needs of the service as required. Prior neurological physiotherapy experience is desirable but not essential.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date,, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers)

This is a fixed term contract until 07/04/2027. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.
