Our neonatal service is proud to provide high-quality, family-integrated care, placing babies and their families at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to maintaining our UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Gold Accreditation, ensuring the highest standards of infant feeding support for babies and families requiring neonatal care.
This exciting role offers the opportunity to support the continued development of our infant feeding service while working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.
The Role
The Infant Feeding Specialist Nurse will provide expert advice, education and support to babies, families and staff within the neonatal unit. The post holder will champion evidence-based infant feeding practice in line with UNICEF BFI Neonatal Standards, supporting families through often complex feeding journeys while promoting informed choice and compassionate care.
Key aspects of the role include:
Providing specialist infant feeding support to babies and families within the neonatal unit
Supporting parents to establish and maintain feeding
Acting as a clinical resource for staff, offering guidance on feeding challenges and best practice
Supporting education and training for neonatal staff in line with BFI standards
Contributing to audit, quality improvement and service development to maintain UNICEF accreditation
Working collaboratively with maternity, neonatal and community colleagues to support consistent infant feeding care
About You
We are looking for a motivated neonatal nurse who:
Is a registered nurse (RN Child / RSCN / RM) with NMC registration
Has post-registration neonatal experience
Has strong knowledge and experience in supporting infant feeding
Demonstrates excellent communication skills with families and multidisciplinary teams
Is passionate about family-centred and compassionate neonatal care
Has experience or interest in UNICEF BFI standards, education, audit or service improvement
Additional infant feeding or lactation qualifications are desirable.

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2026-7 rates, inclusive of a 3.3% pay award implemented from April 2026. If you join before this date,, remuneration will be based on the 2025-6 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2025/26 | NHS Employers)
