An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in both acute and community settings within respiratory physiotherapy. We are developing our Community Pulmonary Rehabilitation groups and the Early Supported Discharge service based in the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust East. We are recruiting to new and existing Physiotherapy posts to run Pulmonary Rehab groups for COPD patients, as well as supporting the community rehabilitation teams with the treatment and management of other respiratory conditions.
The positions will work across the 7 localities within the Community Rehabilitation, but will have dedicated administration and rehabilitation support worker support in organising and running the Pulmonary Rehabilitation groups. The position will also involve being a member of a specialist team contributing to the delivery of the Early Supported Discharge service for patients with COPD within the acute trust. Visiting patients on the ward and in their own homes.
The post holder will work clinically as part of the role; collaboratively working with community rehabilitation teams, the acute pulmonary rehabilitation service, acute trust, community nursing teams and PCN’s. The work environment will include use of the hospital gym, local gyms and community centres to run the pulmonary rehabilitation groups and assessment clinics, as well as working in patients’ homes offering a more personalised approach as required. The post holder will also offer support and education to the community rehabilitation teams and respiratory nursing teams.
The post holder must have respiratory knowledge and skills in treating patients with respiratory conditions primarily COPD, as well as other respiratory conditions such as bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease and asthma. Experience of running pulmonary rehabilitation groups is preferably, as well as using excellent communication skills.
IT skills will be essential to maintain the IT based information systems required for the clinical aspect of the role.
We are committed to the continuing professional development of all our team members and will consider internal and external learning opportunities which can be discussed in regular supervision and appraisals. There is the opportunity to join in the South West Pulmonary Rehabilitation network and peer support, as well as attending further training in running Pulmonary rehabilitation through the British Thoracic society.
The main base for the new positions will be within the Community rehabilitation teams and based at Wonford Hospital on certain days (to be discussed), however the post holder will need to be able to drive to different localities to run the Pulmonary rehabilitation groups and to offer support to the community teams.
Working Pattern: The post holder will be expected to work Monday to Friday 8.30 -16.30. However, there will be scope to include shift patterns including occasional evening working and weekend working.
