The Hospital Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit (HSDU) provides the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Operating Theatres, Wards and Departments with Surgical Instruments and Medical Devices required for their sterile procedures.
The HSDU Senior Technician vacancy offers the successful candidate a varied and interesting introduction to the broad range of Decontamination Sciences.

We are looking for applicants, working as part of a core group of Senior Technicians and Managers, to help lead our team of highly skilled Sterile Services Technicians. Thorough knowledge of sterile services with ideally at least two years’ experience would be desirable. Knowledge of relevant national and international standards and decontamination processes is expected, along with a detailed understanding of surgical instrumentation. Alternatively, candidates with proven supervisory experience would be welcomed, as full training in Sterile Services can be provided.
You will demonstrate good written, verbal and IT skills and be capable of interacting with staff at all levels on a day to day basis. You must be enthusiastic, have a good general education and have the ability to follow instructions.
Key to the job role will be the provision of an efficient and flexible service to ensure that, on a day to day basis, the service meets its operational targets which conform to our quality systems environment of ISO 13485:2016 and HTM 01:01.
Applicants must have an adaptable, flexible approach to work and be able to demonstrate they can work very well within a team, as well as being able to use their own initiative.
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week.
The Senior Technician role operates on a rolling five-week rota, comprising of:
Two weeks 06:30 - 14:00
One week 13:15 - 21:15
One week 10:00 - 18:00
One week 13:15 - 21:15
There is a requirement to work 1 weekend in 5 on a rota ‘on-call’ basis, as well as covering occasional Public Holidays and night shift relief cover as part of the team.
