Role Summary

The Senior Research and Development Manager will provide expert leadership, management and operational oversight to the Trusts Research and Development function. The post holder will ensure that systems and processes are in place to deliver high quality research that meets legislative guidance and governance regulation. The post holder has responsibility for operational research delivery ensuing systems and processes are in place to meet performance targets, compiling business plans and reports and providing Research and Development budgetary management. The post holder will have managerial responsibilities for the Research and Development Professional Services Team.  Working closely with the Research and Development Director the post holder will support the development and delivering of the Trusts research strategy, delivery service and expansion of the research portfolio across clinical specialities. The post holder will ensure delivery of a high quality, customer focused service and support the research team to strengthen the research culture across the Trust. The post holder will liaise closely with key external stakeholders to support the Trusts research strategy including the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Infrastructure and the University of Exeter.

  • Work across the Trust undertaking a key role in supporting research development and delivery in support of the Trust’s strategy in relation to research
  • Deputise for the R&D Director as required

Working at the cutting edge of health delivery the Research and Development Team at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust support staff of all professions to discover better ways to prevent and treat ill health enabling people from across our community to benefit from research participation and people from across the world to benefit from our research outputs.
The team work very closely with the University of Exeter in a Joint Research Office with whom we also collaborate in an NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and Clinical Research Facility. The Trust has a thriving commercial portfolio with one of only five UK NIHR Patient Recruitment Centres and also delivers non-commercial research across all departments. 
We are looking for a Senior Manager to join our friendly and enthusiastic team. If you are an experienced operational manager with a proven track record, enthusiastic and tenacious with the passion to achieve goals and see things through, we think you should consider our role. 
Working closely with the Trusts R&D Director to deliver the research strategy, the post holder will provide expert leadership, management and operational oversight to the Trusts R&D function. You will liaise with internal and external key stakeholders to help grow the research portfolio and work with our regional partners to broaden research capacity across the region. To deliver this role you can be based in Exeter or Barnstaple, there will be a requirement to visit the other site regularly and you may also want to work some of your time remotely.
