Senior Ophthalmic Technician

Role Summary

Are you passionate about developing a career in ophthalmology and working at the forefront of glaucoma care?

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our Glaucoma Service as a Trainee Advanced Ophthalmic Technician within the Ophthalmology Department at Heavitree Hospital, Exeter.

This is a training post, starting at Band 3. You’ll be fully supported to complete a Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Imaging, with the opportunity to progress to Band 4 upon successful qualification and demonstration of required competencies.

Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you’ll play a key role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging and visual field testing for patients with glaucoma and other eye conditions. You’ll use state of the art ophthalmic imaging technology in a modern, patient focused environment.

Main duties of the job:

Perform and support a range of ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic tests within the glaucoma service.

Assist in the smooth running of outpatient clinics, ensuring patients are treated with care, dignity, and respect.

SUpervise the work of technicians and nurses, developing competence in advanced ophthalmic imaging procedures.

Contribute to the training and support of new staff and students as your skills develop.

Maintain accurate records and support the department’s commitment to high standards of clinical governance, safety, and infection control.

Working Pattern: 28 hours over 3 day 8:00- 18:00
