Role Summary

As the Outpatient Matron, you will take strategic and operational leadership of our multidisciplinary outpatient teams delivering specialist care to women and families within the fetal and maternal medicine pathways. This includes supporting complex pregnancies and ensuring safe, person-centred care

You will work in close collaboration with obstetricians, midwives, sonographers, and other allied health professionals, championing service development and clinical excellence across all aspects of outpatient maternity care.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Clinical Midwifery Outpatient Matron to join our senior maternity leadership team. This pivotal Band 8a role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and shape high-quality, evidence-based care across our fetal and maternal medicine outpatient services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide visible, compassionate leadership to midwifery and obstetric teams within fetal and maternal medicine services.

  • Drive continuous quality improvement and ensure services meet national standards and local performance metrics.

  • Collaborate with senior obstetric and fetal medicine consultants to coordinate seamless multidisciplinary care.

  • Lead on patient safety, incident management, and learning, with a focus on reducing inequalities and improving outcomes.

  • Support innovation in digital pathways and contribute to research, audit, and policy development.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive working culture that promotes staff wellbeing and development.

What We’re Looking For:

  • NMC registered Midwife with significant post-registration clinical experience in maternity care.

  • Demonstrable leadership experience in a senior midwifery or managerial role.

  • Sound knowledge of national maternity transformation programmes and NHS Long Term Plan ambitions.

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, influence change, and deliver high standards of care.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and strategic thinking skills.

Working Pattern: 18.75hrs with a manager on call commitment

Pay: The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2025/6 rates, inclusive of a 3.6% pay award which will be implemented later this year. If you join before the implementation date, the pay award will be backdated to your start date. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2024/5 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2024/25 | NHS Employers)
