Role Summary
Do you have a background as a personal trainer / fitness instructor or experience in Care or Rehabilitation? Are you looking to use your skills to make a difference to patients on their Rehabilitation journey? You’ll receive excellent training and development opportunities and be supported in a friendly and dynamic Community Neurological Rehabilitation team in Exeter.
Do you want to work with experienced Neurological Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who are enthusiastic and passionate about Rehabilitation? You will have the opportunity to assist in providing Rehabilitation programmes for adults with Neurological conditions (including Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Spinal Cord Injury & Functional Neurological Disorder). Treatments are carried out individually with patients and in groups; working in patient’s homes, Hospital gyms and local Leisure Centres. The team liaises closely with Neuro Psychology and Speech and Language colleagues to provide the best Rehab opportunities we can offer to our patients.

Rehabilitation sessions that you would support include:
- Indoor & outdoor mobility & transfer practice e.g. in/out bed or chair, drink & meal preparation, cognitive e.g. memory strategies, personal care activities, graded exercise programs, practicing use of equipment, strength & balance groups.
- You can gain experience in ordering equipment and administration relating to therapy activities.
You would be a team player who can make a difference to people’s lives. We will give you opportunities to train and develop your knowledge and skills in Neurological Rehabilitation through induction, shadowing, clinical supervision, in-service training & peer support.
The post holder will need to have a car and be able to drive. This is due to distances covered between patient visits and the need to transport equipment for assessment of patients.
Whilst working in a team you will also gain autonomy; by managing your diary, carrying out follow up phone calls with patient’s, carers and families. You will be able to use your IT skills as we have electronic patient notes.

Working Pattern: 28.5 hours per week. The Community Neuro Rehab team working hours are between 8:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. You are required at times to work in the Exeter Urgent Care Response team, so the ability to work between the hours of 8am and 8pm and weekends is required for this rota. This will provide you with experience in more acute patient conditions.
