Role Summary

To provide a comprehensive, high-quality, efficient and cost-effective, scientific, clinical technical and clinical advisory biochemistry service, as an independent advanced practitioner, under the overall direction of the Consultant Clinical Scientist and Laboratory Director. To maintain an area of highly specialised knowledge and take responsibility for the provision of scientific services in that area, acting as an expert in that field. Main duties include research and development, clinical liaison, result interpretation, development of policies and procedures, performance monitoring and external quality assurance, method and equipment evaluation, training of technical, nursing and medical staff.

The Exeter Blood Sciences Department is closely affiliated with the University of Exeter Medical School, fostering a strong collaborative relationship. Our laboratory plays a pivotal role in providing a comprehensive Research and Development analytical service, supporting clinical trials and translating diagnostic research into practical applications. We are proud to be at the forefront of ground breaking research, particularly in the fields of diabetes and gastroenterology autoimmunity.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an energetic, enthusiastic and well-motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to play a key role in the development and future direction the Blood Sciences Department within the Specialist Services Division of The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The post holder will be responsible for providing expert advice to users of the service, evaluating new methodologies, developing, growing and optimizing the service. They will be play a significant part in the development of the service within the Blood Sciences Department, providing a robust, fit for purpose service.

In addition, the post holder will take a key role within the laboratory to promote its use for research activities and the provision of specialist services to external Trusts, academic institutions and commercial organisations.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week (5 x 7.5 hours)
