Role Summary

To assist the Cellular Pathology Manager in the smooth running of the routine Cellular Pathology Laboratory and the production of high-quality work. To oversee, coordinate and manage the daily workload within the Cellular Pathology Department.

Develop and implement Departmental policies and procedures with particular reference to quality improvement and international standard ISO15189:2022 in conjunction with the Cellular Pathology Manager.

The Cellular Pathology Services at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced, highly motivated Histopathology Biomedical Scientist to join our team in the North Devon Hospital Laboratory. This is a permanent position.

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading and motivating the technical and scientific staff in the delivery and development of a high quality safe Histopathology service. There will be close working arrangements with the Histopathology team based in the Exeter Laboratory and with the Pathology Service Manager, Joint Cellular Pathology Manager and Clinical Leads to ensure a well-run integrated service across the organisation.

The post holder will be an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with proven technical and scientific experience and will bring managerial and leadership skills to the role.  Training and development will be encouraged in both scientific and management areas to ensure candidates reach their full potential. Although management qualifications are essential, we will also consider candidates that require further training. In this case a Band 6 position will be offered until further training or competency is complete. 

You will have joint responsibility for Quality Management within the Department, ensuring the Department maintains its UKAS ISO15189:2012 accreditation.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
