Role Summary
This post will sit within the respiratory and medical rehabilitation teams which covers the areas of surgery, acute medicine, frailty, intensive care and the medical assessment unit. There is also a requirement to work on the respiratory on call roster which covers adults and paediatrics.
Main duties of the job
- To perform physiotherapeutic assessment of patients, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To supervise Junior staff in their development.
- To be actively involved in Service developments and innovations.

We’re looking for a Specialist Physiotherapist to join our respiratory rotation at North Devon District Hospital. If you would like to progress your career in a forward-thinking therapy department then we want to hear from you. There are opportunities to work full time or part time,
Opportunities within this role include:
- To develop skills on critical care, surgical wards, paediatrics and in medical specialities.
- Supervising junior staff in their development and progression within their roles.
- Service development and teaching opportunities within the established teaching programme and Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Working as a multidisciplinary team within the Trust with excellent links and support from our respiratory consultants.
About You
You will need to have Specialist knowledge, experience and an interest in Respiratory Physiotherapy and be willing to work in a variety of areas. You will be required to be an autonomous practitioner, to be up to date with evidence-based practice and be able to assess and treat patients who are acutely unwell and have complex needs.

Innovation is central to therapies at the Royal Devon, demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead. We are not afraid of adopting new techniques, as shown by the introduction of our ultrasound-guided injection therapy in Orthopaedic and Neurology pathways. We are continuing to develop the Respiratory Outpatient Therapy Service. The inpatient team has completed a quality improvement project using a Therapy bike resulting in patients benefiting from increased rehabilitation time, improved mood, engagement and muscle strength.

Working Pattern: This is a full-time post, Monday to Friday, the post holder is required to work on the Respiratory on call rota.
