Role Summary

Are you interested in Respiratory Physiotherapy Clinical Leadership, assessment and  treatment of Acutely unwell patients, strategic planning of Respiratory Physiotherapy services and working outside of normal scope of practice.

We are looking for a Respiratory Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner to be based at North Devon District Hospital. The post holder will provide Clinical Leadership across Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Surgery and Respiratory Outpatients services. With an expectation to assess and treat patients in the inpatient areas. 

The post requires a Masters educational level which has been mapped to all the outcomes of the Multi Professional Advanced Practice Framework and Health Education England.  The fours pillars of practice are:

  • Clinical Practice
  • Leadership and management
  • Education
  • Research

It would be desirable to have a digital badge.

There is the opportunity for this post to be a developmental Band 7 to 8a role to give the successful candidate the opportunity to achieve the advanced practice competencies and masters training required within a defined time period.

The post holder will provide Clinical Leadership, monitor, lead improvements to standards of care through:

  • Supervision of practice
  • Clinical Audit
  • Implementation of evidence based practice
  • Teaching and support of colleagues.
  • Provision of professional leadership.

We are  looking to recruit an experienced, highly skilled and forward-thinking individual to provide Advanced Clinical Leadership to the Respiratory Physiotherapy Team.

The post holder will drive forward the transformation of current pathways, hold a Clinical caseload across inpatient services, provide clinical leadership to Respiratory outpatients. 

The Therapy team is an integrated team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists and works closely with the wider Multidisciplinary team. 

The post is delivered over Monday - Friday with expectation to cover evening, weekend and Respiratory on call shifts. 

About You

The post holder will be able to demonstrate an extensive range of specialist knowledge, experience and expertise in Respiratory, which will include masters level specialist training and evidence of advanced practice skills.

You will oversee the education and staff competency in Respiratory Physiotherapy ensuring it meets high standards of clinical governance. As part of the role there will be a need to provide Advanced physiotherapy advice to the team and other disciplines / agencies.

Training and development and Career Progression

The Trust is keen to support staff to develop strong leadership and clinical skills through clinical supervision, internal and external continuing professional development opportunities.

Innovation is central to Therapies at the Royal Devon demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead. The Respiratory Physiotherapy team have been actively involved in training to gain accreditation as Physiotherapists for the use of  lung ultrasound. 

You will be responsible for ensuring excellence with in the team by initiating and participating in evidence-based projects and audit, to improve both immediate and future quality of care.

Working Pattern: 8.30 - 16.30 and Respiratory on call.

Pay - The salary advertised for this position reflects the Agenda for Change 2024-5 rates, inclusive of a 5.5% pay award implemented from October 2024. If you join before this date, the pay award will be backdated to April 2024 or your start date, whichever is later. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 2023-4 pay bandings (Pay scales for 2023/24 | NHS Employers).
