We are seeking a talented enthusiastic leader for the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN). This complex and exciting new role hosted by The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will support research delivery across health and social care providers in Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as well as having national responsibilities.  

This is arguably one of the most important and senior roles of its type in the peninsular and gives the post holder the opportunity of delivering better outcomes for the patient population.

As an experienced leader, your role will be pivotal to realising the benefits of research participation in collaboration with life sciences partners, academic institutions and health and social care providers. 

The RRDN Director is the senior officer responsible for the overall leadership, delivery and management of the South West Peninsula RRDN. You will be accountable for the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded clinical research across the health and care system in the South West Peninsula for the benefit of patients, the health and care system and the economy with particular emphasis on addressing the needs of the life sciences industry (across both commercial contract and commercial collaborative research).

Supported by the RRDN senior team, the RRDN Director will have three key roles:

● First, to provide support to research sites to enable the effective and efficient initiation and delivery of funded research across the health and care system in England.

● Second, to enable the strategic development of new and more effective research delivery capability and capacity. This will include bringing research to under-served regions and communities with major health and care needs.

● Third, to work jointly with the Coordinating Centre in the strategic oversight of the NIHR RDN. This will ensure that the portfolio is maintained as a cohort of high-quality, fully-funded, viable and deliverable studies. It will also ensure that the NIHR RRDN as a whole serves the needs of researchers and R&D teams and is responsive to the changing domestic and global environment for health and care, life sciences and health research.

The South West Peninsula RRDN will be one of 12 regional networks which will replace the existing Local Clinical Research Networks from 1st October 2024. The RRDN Director will be a member of the national Research Delivery Network Board and as a senior leader and ambassador for RRDN and will contribute to the ongoing development of the vision, direction and strategic at the national level translating this into deliverable priorities within the South West region.

Working Pattern: This substantive role is full-time, flexible working arrangements will be considered.
