Role Summary
- To assess and provide the full range of care needs to develop, implement and evaluate care throughout the antenatal and postnatal period for women and their babies, working under supervision as required.
- To immunise pregnant women for conditions advised by Public Health England in pregnancy
- To have a supportive role in the provision and ongoing development of antenatal and newborn screening services for pregnant women and newborn babies who are booked for maternity care at the Centre for Women’s Health.
- To provide effective leadership and to act as a good role model
- To supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff, acting as a mentor. Work autonomously within guidelines and spheres of professional practice.
- To promote choice for women and promote normality and an individualised service.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated passionate individual to cover maternity leave for approximately 1 year at the Royal Devon University Hospitals East.
We are looking for an experienced midwife to join our Pregnancy Immunisation & Screening team. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 2 years clinical experience, preferable with a range of midwifery experience.
We need someone who has excellent communication skills and is especially interested in developing their midwifery skills in this area of practice. You will need to work independently, as well as part of a team and be self-motivated and enthusiastic.
Immunisations are offered on weekdays in FMAU and you will cover half of a job-share role – Thursdays, Fridays and alternate Wednesdays.
Part of the role also involves:
- deputising for the screening coordinator
- counselling women and their partners with high chance results
- assisting in the delivery of the fetal medicine service
- participating in monitoring failsafe’s and data collection
Working Pattern: 18.75 hours per week
