Post CCT Fellow Doctor in Emergency Medicine

Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for a motivated and enthusiastic Post-CCT Fellow in Emergency Medicine. This 12-month fixed-term role is ideal for newly qualified consultants (or those approaching CCT) who wish to gain further experience in clinical leadership, education, quality improvement, and sustainability within the Emergency Department.

This fellowship is offered at 0.7 WTE (Less Than Full Time), with 75% clinical and 25% non-clinical time. Clinical work will be paid at the standard rate with appropriate enhancements for out-of-hours shifts.

Clinical Duties (75%)

  • Provide senior decision-making and leadership across all clinical areas of the Emergency Department.
  • Participate in the departmental rota.
  • Contribute to safe and effective care delivery in the department. 

Non-Clinical Duties (25%)

Governance & Quality Improvement

  • Lead and participate in quality improvement initiatives. 
  • Engage in departmental clinical governance activities, including audit and incident review.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of the GreenED sustainability programme.

Education

  • Contribute to departmental education and teaching programmes.
  • Support and run simulation training
  • Provide clinical supervision for junior doctors, ACPs, PAs, and other learners.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications
  • CCT (or CESR-CP equivalent) in Emergency Medicine by start date. (Essential)
  • GMC registration with licence to practise. (Essential)

Experience

  • You must have a minimum of 12 months experience within the NHS Emergency Medicine – those without this need not apply.
  • Broad experience in Emergency Medicine with recent senior clinical exposure. (Essential)
  • Experience in quality improvement or clinical governance. (Desirable)
  • Experience in teaching or simulation-based education. (Desirable)

Skills and Attributes

  • Ability to work independently and lead clinical teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Interest in service development, sustainability, or education

Working Pattern: 28 hours
