Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic podiatrist, to join our friendly, supportive Podiatry team in the Eastern locality of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. 

We deliver a high standard of patient-centred care in a range of settings, including community and acute outpatient clinics and inpatient and domiciliary settings. Many of our patients are now high risk, requiring regular podiatry intervention and education, for the prevention and management of foot ulceration and amputation. There will be the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience within the diabetic foot service in this role.

The successful candidate will be involved in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with a wide range of clinical needs, as well discharging patients who have completed treatment, or who do not meet the service access criteria.  The candidate will also have opportunities to take part in nail surgery, MSK, wound care, education and audit.

The candidate will be expected to work flexibly, across multiple sites, to meet the demands of the service.  They also need to work as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  

They should be highly organised, with the ability to work independently and use their initiative to make a positive contribution to their own development and that of the service.  

A sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management is important, as well as being up to date with national guidelines and current best practice.

A degree or diploma in podiatry with current HCPC registration and a local analgesia certificate is a requirement.  

We are also considering applications for a Band 3 (Annexe 21 pay structure ) developmental post with a potential to undertake a podiatry level 6 Apprenticeship commencing September 2027 

The apprenticeship is a three year programme of work based learning that is directly related to the apprenticeship standard. In addition, the apprenticeship has a mandatory 20% off-the-job learning. The University-based Honours degree study is also linked to the Apprenticeship Standard. It is scheduled to commence in September 2027 with interviews to take place in March 2027.

Eligibility- You will be able to demonstrate how you will be able to use the experiences you are bringing to become a Podiatrist. Understanding of the scope of the role of the Podiatrist and Podiatry assistant in context of the team and the organisation and how the role may contribute to service development. You will treat people with dignity, respecting individual's diversity, beliefs, culture, needs, values, privacy and preferences. You will show respect and empathy for those you work with, have the courage to challenge areas of concern and work to evidence based best practice. You will also be adaptable, reflective, reliable and consistent, show discretion, resilience, self-awareness and demonstrate leadership.

You must be able to meet the following criteria:

  • GCSE minimum grade C/4 (or accepted equivalent) in mathematics and English
  • GCSE minimum grade C/4 in a science subject
  • Evidence of Level 3 qualifications
  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS check

Programme content

The academic part of the training will be provided by the University of Plymouth https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/study/apprenticeships/podiatry-degree-apprenticeship

The mode of learning will be distance learning provided by University of Plymouth over the 3 year period. One day a week will be dedicated to theory learning provided by the University. The remaining days will be spent working within the Podiatry department.

On successful completion of the programme you will be equipped with the appropriate knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours to ensure competence at the point of qualification. You will have the capability to continue to meet Health and Care Professions Council regulatory standards and the College of Podiatry professional standards throughout your professional career.

On completion of the course the applicant will be a qualified Podiatrist and able to apply for permanent Podiatry positions.
