The post will involve fast tracking your post graduate training in a meaningful career progression way. The successful candidate will receive expert, hands on training to support Movement Disorders and Falls services as part of a career progression post through developing sub-specialty interests in these areas. An interest in these areas is essential but previous experience is not a requirement for a suitably enthusiastic candidate.
The successful candidate will join Consultant supervised clinics in Parkinson’s Disease and will rotate around the various areas spending time within Stroke, Orthogeriatrics and Dementia wards alongside time in our in-patient Parkinson’s Disease ward.
The post offered is a 12-month fixed-term contract funded by the Elective Recovery Fund. Depending on operational circumstances, an opportunity may arise to convert this post into a permanent role beyond the initial 12 month period. Although this is yet to be confirmed. The successful candidate will be employed by the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust based at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital site as part of the Healthcare for Older People Department. This post would support a future career in Neurology, Geriatric Medicine or Acute and General Medicine and would be suitable for Physician Associates with 12 but ideally 24 months experience post-qualification. The post is on offer is full time but less than full time applicants will be given equal consideration.

Across the Trust, there are 7 current qualified Physician Associates working in a variety of specialities in a mixture of rotational and substantive posts. We have 6 about to graduate from year 2 student programme and 6 year 1 students. The Physician Associate profession has grown over the last few years with a dedicated leadership team. We believe a key component of the role is a clear idea of a career progression with consultant supervision and mentoring. We have regular Physician Associate specific teaching sessions which are not only beneficial for ongoing CPD requirements, but also help create a warm and welcoming Physician Associate community. We also had a dedicated weekly teaching programme for that includes monthly simulation sessions and there is a dedicated Training Programme Director for Physician Associates.
Working Pattern: 18.75 Hours per week

This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.
