Role Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH) for an experienced Paediatric Physiotherapist in MSK to join our Orthopaedic Interface Service (OIFS) based in North Devon.
This post offers the opportunity to work as part of a highly regarded, consultant-supported Spinal, Lower Limb, Upper Limb, Foot & Ankle and Paediatric MSK service, with focus on the Paediatric service. You will be embedded within the Northern service area while being an integral part of the wider RDUH pathway.
In this role, you will act as a Band 7 Paediatric Physiotherapist, operating at the interface between community paediatrics, primary care, and acute hospital orthopaedic teams. You will manage a complex caseload of children and young people presenting with diverse musculoskeletal, congenital, and neuromuscular orthopaedic conditions. You will play a pivotal role in triaging referrals, reducing consultant waitlists, and ordering appropriate diagnostics to streamline patient pathways

The postholder will deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based assessment and management for children with MSK and orthopaedic presentations, ensuring safe, effective, and timely care from first contact through to discharge.
You will play a pivotal role in delivering expert paediatric MSK assessment, advanced clinical reasoning, and management of complex conditions, while contributing to pathway development across primary and secondary care. Working closely with orthopaedics, physiotherapy, and wider MDT partners, you will help shape a seamless, child‑centred interface service.
A key component of the role includes leading serial casting interventions—providing expert assessment, planning, and delivery of evidence‑based casting for children with gait abnormalities, neuromuscular conditions, and complex foot deformities. You will ensure casting practice is safe, effective, and aligned with best‑practice standards, supporting improved functional outcomes for children and young people.
About the service:
The Orthopaedic Interface Service (OIFS) delivers specialist triage and assessment for patients with complex MSK and orthopaedic presentations, providing high‑quality, evidence‑based management across the full pathway. As a core component of the wider RDUH system, the service operates seamlessly from GP referral through to secondary and tertiary care, ensuring coordinated, efficient patient flow.
OIFS plays a central role in making sure patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place. By offering expert assessment and early intervention, the service reduces unnecessary surgical referrals, supports timely access to specialist opinion, and improves outcomes across the MSK pathway.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice
- Independently manage complex MSK presentations
- Request, interpret, and act on diagnostic investigations
- Contribute to surgical decision-making and pathway optimisation
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care with advanced clinical autonomy

- Work collaboratively with Consultant Physiotherapists and clinical leaders
