Role Summary

Applications are invited for a Band 7 Operations Manager within the Genetics and Genomics team, which sits within the Clinical Specialist Services Care Group.

This is a very exciting time for the team as the current Peninsula and Bristol clinical genetics services become integrated to provide care for patients living throughout the South West region, a population of approximately 4.4 million across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Gloucestershire and West Wiltshire. The integrated service will be hosted by Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and have main hubs in Exeter and Bristol, with clinics held in various hospitals across the region.

The Clinical Genetics team is friendly, successful and ambitious. The successful candidate will work as part of a strong multi-disciplinary team and have the opportunity to help shape services, with involvement in all aspects of the current service and the transformation project, including performance, financial, people and operational management.

The post holder will be a key member of the Genetics and Genomics operational services management team and will provide essential managerial support and leadership within defined services, in order to:

  • Provide effective day-to-day operational management of their specified service(s)
  • Develop and contribute to cross site service plans and projects and change initiatives as required to ensure the service is delivered effectively.
  • Manage the business activities of defined service(s)/speciality in accordance with Trust policies and within allocated resources.
  • To continuously develop the most effective, efficient and cost-effective structure for the future delivery of those services with the involvement of clinicians, professionals and commissioners.
  • To meet performance targets for quality, volume and cost.
  • To take a proactive role in continuous improvement of equitable cross site services.
  • To be a delegated budget holder and authorised signatory for specialties pay and non-pay budgets, including accountability for revenue budgets and procurement of capital equipment (within Trust delegated limits)

The role is challenging and varied, and relies on the post holder having comprehensive knowledge and a diverse skillset which can be applied across a breadth of operational challenges, offering autonomy in service management to a more experienced candidate. The post holder will be supported by the Senior Operations Manager, with links to the wider Specialty and Care Group teams, enabling development and peer support opportunities with other Operations Managers within the Care Group.

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
