Role Summary

  • Provide highly specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice to patients and their carers.  The specialist area is Community Neurological Rehabilitation and includes a wide range of acute, chronic and terminal care cases, many having high complex disabilities and/or presentations.
  • Lead the clinical speciality providing leadership, development and governance in relation to the clinical area and supporting other clinicians regarding patient treatment and management.
  • Be part of an interdependent, multidisciplinary team ensuring that therapy input is integrated into the patients’ overall care plan.
  • Work with the manager to lead and develop the service in line with patient need and trust wide developments and to help provide an equitable service across the Trust.

We are looking for a part time Band 7 Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist in Neurology, to join our Exeter Community Neurological Rehabilitation multidisciplinary team. 

This post holder will carry out specialist assessments & treatment of patients presenting with a range of neurological diagnoses such as spinal injury, MS, CVE, MND, FND, ABI, TBI. Patients may have acute and longer term needs, some being chronic, palliative or end of life. 

Our service is based at Exeter Community Hospital, working across a variety of community settings; including people’s homes, workplaces, gyms, nursing and residential homes. We work closely with the acute hospital in Exeter, Urgent Community Response teams, social services, clinical psychology & the independent sector.

The focus of the postholders role is to: 

  • Provide clinical leadership in this neurological speciality for the small neuro OT team 
  • Work with the Exeter Advanced Practitioner Physiotherapist in neurology to maintain cohesive neuro team working 
  • Provide OT second opinions and support for other Exeter clinicians regarding patient care in this speciality 
  • To manage own caseload of highly complex patients 
  • Work with the Therapy Manager and Professional Leads to monitor, evaluate, and develop equitable services for patients 

We are looking for a dynamic and creative individual, who is flexible and adaptable to change. You will require expert communication skills and be passionate about empowering patients.

Working pattern: This is a substantive post for 17 ¾ hours per week - you will need to prioritise work demands and ensure excellent time management.
