More detail about the role:

The role is designed to consolidate and build on the skills and knowledge gained as a junior physiotherapist, across the four pillars of practice (clinical, leadership, education and research). We are able to offer excellent experience in areas including: stroke and neurology (inpatient and supported discharge services); musculoskeletal, trauma and orthopaedics; respiratory (ICU, medical and surgical inpatients); and frailty.

Neuro-Rehab Team

For the first year of the role, you will work as part of the innovative and dynamic Neuro-Rehab team.  This research active team work across inpatient, community (Early Supported Discharge) and outpatient settings to provide specialist, evidence-based neuro-rehabilitation to patients following stroke or other neurological diagnosis. You will have the opportunity to develop expertise in delivering interventions such as treadmill training, hydrotherapy, FES and spasticity management, as well as be involved in regional and local service improvement projects focussed on increasing the intensity of rehabilitation for our patients.

Musculoskeletal Outpatient team

Working within the MSK team provides the opportunity to work alongside consultant physiotherapists, extended scope practitioners and first contact practitioners, as well as the Persistent Pain and Rheumatology services.  Interventions are delivered in a range of settings including face to face, virtual, hydrotherapy, gym classes and self-management groups. Our team of expert clinicians with post-graduate qualifications will support you to clinically develop and engage with quality improvement and research projects.

Inpatient team

The inpatient team at NDDH offer opportunities within trauma and elective orthopaedics including hydrotherapy and early supported discharge services. The acute team offer rotations within cardiology, respiratory, frailty, surgical, paediatric and intensive care specialities. The team run a robust competency and in-service training programme, buddy system, regular and supportive supervision and clinical simulation suite sessions to support your continual practice development.

Training and development opportunities are in high supply here, whether you are interested in clinical or leadership development courses we'll support you in finding the best way to grow. We actively encourage CPD and you will have an opportunity to spend time with our range of specialists as part of your CPD.  We have strong connections with local universities, with many of our therapy staff supporting the delivery of post-graduate training programmes and research projects.

Innovation is central to therapies at the Royal Devon, demonstrated by the implementation of several new initiatives and the development of non-traditional roles in recent years including a Research and Innovation Lead, Consultant AHPs, ACP and FCP roles, and the use of point of contact ultrasound (POCUS) within musculoskeletal and respiratory services.
