Role Summary

Opportunity has arisen  to work within the Northern Maternity Services as an experienced midwife or  within our preceptor programme.

The post holder will be based either in a Community  Team , within  the hospital rotating  between Labour Ward and Antenatal /Postnatal Ward or based in our Day Assessment Unit. working as an autonomous practitioner  accountable for the care they give to a woman and her baby.

An experienced midwife will be expected to support students  and return to practice midwives, undertake suturing and  NIPEs  supported by Practice Development Midwife  and Retention Midwives.

Preceptorship midwives will be supported by the Retention Midwife Team to develop their skills during their 12-month preceptorship program. 

 You should be able to manage all obstetric emergencies as they arise including maternal and neonatal resuscitation in all areas of service delivery where the midwife may be the only professional present until help arrives

Midwives - Band 5/6

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced midwives to join our team at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.  You must be committed to delivering high, quality midwifery led care, along with achieving the highest possible service user experience. 

We are also keen to hear from Midwives due to qualify this year who wish to join our exciting preceptorship programme where you will be supported by a dedicated, highly experienced, and motivated team of professionals including  our Retention MIdwives  and our PMA team. 

  We are a small trust making a big difference to the people of Northern Devon where more than 1400 babies are born each year, either at home or in our delivery suite.  We have roles available to work in the hospital and within our community teams working across our beautiful landscape of North Devon.

We are fortunate that we work in an environment where you have time to care within a very supportive team. We are working towards a new model which offers greater autonomy for midwives and this is an amazing opportunity to be part of the redesign of services. 

These are dynamic and exciting roles where no two days are the same and you will need to think on your feet and adapt quickly, using your expertise to deal with any situation that comes your way. You will be well supported by a dedicated and highly motivated team, and a strong investment in your continued training, development, and career progression. 

We currently have vacancies within the community teams, antenatal clinic and maternity inpatient services.

We are able to support traditional and long shifts for better work life balance. We are active participants in the Devon Local Maternity System, being involved in key work streams that will drive changes forward to improve care for our service users. We are also working in collaboration with Devon Maternity Voices Partnership to co-produce services that are responsive to the needs of our local community.
