Macmillan Psychological Support Project Manager

Role Summary

As a Macmillan Project Manager the post holder is responsible for scoping and mapping the provision of psychosocial support services within the geographical area of the Peninsula Cancer Alliance (PCA) with the aim of developing and delivering the PCAs psychosocial support development plan. The Cancer Quality of Life survey has shown significantly higher rates of both mild and moderate mental health problems for those who have experienced a cancer diagnosis.

The post holder is to establish a project group across the Peninsula region with key stakeholders and will include patient engagement. The role involves engaging with a wide range of clinicians in oncology & haematology who provide cancer care and make referrals, primary care clinicians, as well as clinicians and support staff across the NHS and third sector who provide existing support.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager to work with the Peninsula Cancer Alliance and Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Thanks to Macmillan Cancer Support we have a two-year funded post. The successful post holder is required to map supportive services available to people with cancer across the Peninsula, identify best practice and undertake a gap analysis. This information will be used in the Peninsulas Personalised Care strategy and commissioning proposal. The work will provide insights into services currently available, identify a service specification and develop a cost -effective integrated care system that match the needs of the local population.

The NHS Long Term Plan for people affected by cancer spells out the need for developing integrated and coordinated psychosocial care. Research evidence suggests that almost three quarters of people with cancer and major depression in the UK do not receive any treatment for the comorbid depressive illness. As this is a national programme there will be an opportunity to join a community of practice for successful post holder and also there are specific measurables that we will need the post holder to report upon. This post holder would need to hold a clean driving licence and have access to a car as travel around Devon and Cornwall is likely to be required. The post is suitable to home working.

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week. Monday to Friday condensed hours over 4 days will be considered

This is a fixed term contract for 24 months. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.

Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon.
