Role Summary

Do you have a desire to innovate and a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of those with cancer and their families and carers, by promoting psychological health and well-being?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and experienced Clinical Psychologist to lead, develop and implement a highly specialist Psychology service,  which will complement the current established counselling service available to those known to cancer services at the northern site of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a new pilot service, funded by Macmillan, to enhance patients' clinical, functional and well-being outcomes, as well as improving patient experience.

The post holder will be part of a newly formed Macmillan Allied Health Professional team comprising of a Dietitian, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Cancer Care Support Workers and will work alongside the cancer services senior team in the development and ongoing quality assurance of the service, undertaking evaluation and audit to support proof of concept for sustainability of the post after the 18 months fixed term.

The overarching aims of this role, over the 18-month pilot, are to undertake a comprehensive scoping review and ascertain where specialist psychology input and advice is indicated and would be beneficial for those at each stage of the cancer pathways, and those who care for them.

The post holder will develop and establish a specialist psychology service which will complement the current established counselling service available to patients at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH). It is anticipated this service will support those in hospital as well as outpatients.

The post holder will lead and provide day to day managerial support to the newly funded Macmillan AHP team and work closely with all members to enhance the provision of cancer rehabilitation and personalised care for those with cancer known to the northern services of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation trust.

They will also lead the team with a full-service evaluation and towards the end of the pilot period will work closely with the senior members of the Cancer services team to complete a report, the outcome of which will be used to support future business cases with the hope of substantive funding for the Macmillan AHP team, from the trust.

Working Pattern: 30 hours per week

This is a fixed term contract for 18 months. For current NHS employees this post could be a secondment opportunity.

Preference will be given to staff with ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon.
