Role Summary

Join our Linen Services team at Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust! As a Linen Services Assistant. Working predominantly in the Linen Decontamination Unit (LDU), you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the healthcare and decontamination standards required of our modern facility which supplies clean linen to our hospital and other hospitals in the South West. This essential team works behind the scenes to operate a variety of industrial washing, decontamination and finishing equipment. No prior experience in this field is needed - full training will be provided.

In this hands-on position, duties will include the receipt, grading and classification of used linen, and the high quality decontamination and finishing of clean linen items, using some of the most modern and advanced technology automated laundering and finishing equipment in the UK. The role will include the picking and packing of clean linen using PC or hand held devices to input customer order data into the LDU’s linen management application. Other duties may include the loading of caged orders onto vehicles and some local driving duties.

You may also be required to work in any area of the linen services, including in the LDU and Linen Distribution Room situated within the main RD&E Hospital. We’re looking for practical, detail-oriented candidates who are reliable and ready to learn.

What You’ll Need:

  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic devices and applications
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and accurately follow step-by-step instructions
  • Good hand skills and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and adaptability.
  • Physically fit.

Experience in similar work is desirable, but it’s not essential. We value candidates with transferable skills and a positive attitude—if you’re willing to learn, we’ll give you all the training you need.

Working Pattern: 

  • A roster working either a Saturday or a Sunday as part of the 37.5 hour week.
  • Working hours on weekday shifts are mainly 08:00am to 16:00pm and weekend shifts are 06:00am to 14:00pm 
  • A rota pattern will be issued as part of the induction process.

Weekend shifts will be paid at Agenda For Change (AFC) enhanced rates.
