Role Summary
Work as an Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician providing a clinical support service based at South Molton Ophthalmology Hub.
To provide clinical leadership within the ophthalmology hub, supporting clinicians and ophthalmic technicians in the delivery of ophthalmology diagnostic clinics.
To provide training and support non-invasive diagnostic imaging services at South Molton
Ophthalmology hub for outpatients for glaucoma and medical retina services.
Support junior staff develop skills and help to embed a continuous quality improvement culture across the service
As a Team Leader OVS Practitioner will carry out day-to-day supervision of the team
To meet the needs of the service, the post holder may be required to work in other locations as appropriate as directed by the line manager.
As services evolve changes to working patterns may be required.

More about the role
As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you’ll be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients to stay healthy, when they need it most.
We are currently in the commissioning stage of our new £1.25m state-of-the-art South Molton Eye Centre which will enable efficient high volume diagnostic ophthalmic imaging at a single facility. We are now recruiting the clinical team to enable us to launch this new service.
The Eye Centre will increase the much-needed capacity of the ophthalmology services provided in Northern Devon by the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside the diagnostic imaging, the facility is designed to carry out intravitreal injections and will run ophthalmology outpatient clinics.
What is the role of the Lead Ophthalmic Technician?
The lead ophthalmic technician is a new role which has been created to develop and run the diagnostic imaging service which focuses on the two main conditions responsible for visual loss Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma.
You will be responsible for a team of ophthalmic assistants, supporting their training and development, while working alongside other registered and medical staff from the ophthalmology department.

The role will be based at South Molton but may also be required to cover clinics in Barnstaple and Bideford if required.
What experience and skills do you need?
As the lead ophthalmic technician, you will be required to hold a healthcare related degree or equivalent experience. Previous experience and knowledge of all aspects of ophthalmic imaging and specialist ophthalmic imaging equipment is essential.
