Role Summary

We have exciting opportunities for both experienced Healthcare Assistants and compassionate individuals interested in a career in healthcare, committed to providing high quality patient care and a passion for improving the patient experience to join our Medical or Surgical teams here at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

The main duties are:

  • To undertake the basic nursing activities for patient care programmes under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse
  • To contribute to the provision of support functions for the ward
  • To work in accordance with Statutory and Trust policies and procedures

Typical areas we are recruiting to

We are currently recruiting across the Trust but are particularly keen to appoint to the following areas:

Mere Ward– is a 22 bedded surgical ward that cares for patients with pre and post-operative upper gastrointestinal conditions. In addition to this we are also the nominated ward to nurse any chest trauma admissions due to our specialised skills and knowledge in this area. Our patient group comprises of elective, acute, high dependency post ITU and emergency.

Clyst Acute Stroke Unit - specialises in caring for people who have had a stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA) or mini stroke.

Culm Ward and the respiratory High Dependency Unit (RHDU) specialise in caring for people with acute respiratory problems.

Kenn Ward- specialises in caring for older people, including people with dementia.

Lowman Ward- specialises in caring for people with endocrine disorders and those requiring general medical care.

Okement Ward- specialises in caring for people with a range of gastrointestinal, hepatic and nutritional conditions, as well as other general medical conditions.

Torridge Ward- specialises in caring for older people and those requiring additional infection control.

Capener Ward- incorporating the ACE unit – specialises in providing patient-centred care for older people with complex needs and a frailty marker who are likely to be discharged within 72 hours.

Working Pattern: Full time (37.5 hours per week) and part time (23 hours or more per week) are available.
